Most front-load washers have a small access panel on the lower front. Place a towel and shallow pan under it, open the panel, unscrew the filter cap slowly (water will pour out), remove lint and debris, then reinstall firmly. Do this every few months.
Pull the machine out and inspect the drain hose running from the back of the washer to the standpipe or sink. A sharp bend or kink stops water flow. Straighten the hose and ensure it has gentle curves only.
The end of the drain hose should enter the standpipe or sink at 36–96 inches off the floor. Too low and the machine siphons itself mid-cycle; too high and it can't pump water up. Check your washer's manual for the exact recommended height.
Using regular detergent — or too much HE detergent — creates excessive suds that confuse the machine's drain logic. Always use HE-labeled detergent and fill only to the recommended line.
